Scientist

A scientist is an important contributor to the realistic application, design, and intuitive problem solving regarding the project.  Understanding the basic components of physics, chemistry, mathematics, and even technology are some examples of applications that scientists will contribute throughout an engineering design process.

-- Specifically serves as the technical resource and application of the team.

-- Will utilize base knowledge that will provide solutions to solve intuitive and practical problems that may be encountered with the engineering design.  (These solutions will be mentioned in the final presentation).

-- Will oversee the E.I.C “BONUS” feature included in the design.

THE CHALLENGE:

The 2020 Engineering Innovation Challenge challenges participants to Imagine, Design, and Present the next steps that will be used on a future mission to the icy moon.  Points will be awarded based on creativity, practicality, presentation, authenticity, and overall passion for space exploration!

An E.I.C or Engineering Innovation Challenge is an academic-based program that advocates an engineering design competition for Region V during the Fall Regional Conference. This program is a unique way to provide a virtual engineering design competition, and, hopefully in future REB terms, in-person competitions for NSBE Jr. (PCI) and Collegiate level members.  The topics for the design competition will vary based on significant or historical technological innovations that occurred that year and the Regional Chair’s directives.

Engineers, scientists, astronauts, and Earthlings alike have always looked towards the stars for the great opportunities of exploration.  The vast wonders and extraterrestrial phenomena like Europa [yoo-roh-puh] are what continue to inspire curiosity and technological innovation. The magnificent operation joined with SpaceX and NASA in the May 2020 space launch is one of the many historical feats of technology, innovation, and superb curiosity.  The Moon landing in 1969 and the Apollo programs were major historical marks in human history that dramatically impacted the future of human civilization, ideas of innovation, and still inspire individuals to this day!

The successes of these aeronautical and engineering programs were all a result of the men and women that worked diligently through engineering design, trial, and error, and eventually embarked on unimaginable endeavors.
